Seit Jahren kümmert sich Soul Jazz Records um den Backingkatalog des wichtigsten jamaikanischen Plattenproduzenten und Studiobesitzers Clement ‚Coxsone‘ Dodd. Diesmal geht es ganz an den Anfang von dessen Karriere, zusammengestellt sind jamaikanische Rhythm and Blues Aufnahmen aus den späten 50er und frühen 60er Jahren.

Der äthiopische Organist, Akkordionist und Bandleader Hailu Mergia war viele Jahre nur Insidern bekannt, er lebt seit den 80er Jahren im Exil in den USA und arbeitet als Taxifahrer. Seine äthiopischen Platten und Kassetten aus den 70er und 80er Jahren sind unglaublich selten, sodass Hailu fast in Vergessenheit geriet.
Dank der Wiederveröffentlichung seiner LP „Tche Belew“ und der Kassette „Hailu Mergia & his classical Instrument“ durch das amerikanische Label „Awesome Tapes from Africa“ ist Hailu Mergia nun wieder in aller Munde, er gibt wieder fleißig Konzerte und bekommt nun endlich auch ein verdientes Special in der Global Beatbox!
