Er ist wohl eine der bedeutendsten Persönlichkeiten der Musica Popular Brasileira und einer der vollendetsten Sänger und Komponisten brasilianischer Popularmusik, der 1942 in Rio de Janeiro geborene Milton Nascimento.

In den 1960er Jahren begann er, damals als die Musica Popular Brasileira-Welle, kurz MPB genannt, anrollte, mit seinen oft nachdenklichen-spirituellen Liedern und seiner gefühlvollen Stimme. Schnell wurde Milton Nascimento ein Star der MPB-Bewegung.

In diesem Special stellt Olaf Maikopf Milton Nascimento’s musikalisches Schaffen von den 1960er Jahren bis in die Gegenwart vor.

Es wird höchste Zeit dass endlich mal einer aufräumt mit dem Vorurteil, die Jamaikaner hätten alle Dreadlocks, rauchten den ganzen Tag Marijuana und verehrten den letzten äthiopischen Kaiser Haile Selassi als den Erlöser. Na klar verkaufen sich so Reggaeplatten, aber 2/3 aller Jamaikaner sind Christen und gehen zum Beten in die Kirche!

So gab es neben dem Reggae auch seit jeher eine Gospelszene auf Jamaika, und viele große Reggaelabel hatten kleine Gospel-Unterlabel, auf denen christliche Musik erschien.
